Introduction

Every year on October 16, the international community celebrates World Food Day, established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1979. The day seeks to raise awareness about global hunger, promote food security, and encourage collective action toward ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food for all.
Food is not merely a commodity—it is a fundamental human right, and World Food Day serves as a call to reaffirm this principle.


Global Food Challenges

Despite modern progress in agriculture and technology, hunger and malnutrition persist worldwide. The United Nations reports that over 735 million people experience chronic hunger, while millions more face food insecurity caused by conflict, economic hardship, and environmental degradation.

In contrast, nearly one-third of all food produced globally is wasted. This paradox—where some face abundance while others face starvation—underscores the need for equitable distribution, sustainable food systems, and responsible consumption.
