INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2022

International Literacy Day takes place on September 8 every year. It is aimed at creating awareness and concern for literacy problems that exist within our own local communities as well as globally.

What exactly is literacy?

Literacy is the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world.  Alberta Education defines literacy as the ability, confidence and willingness to engage with language to acquire, construct and communicate meaning in all aspects of daily living.

Ever imagined navigating modern-day life without the basic ability to read and write? I believe the world would have been a disaster if we couldn’t read and write, because the ability to read and write helps us to communicate with each other using a language.

Readers are Leaders.

Visions for Nigeria Foundations celebrates this day by encouraging everyone to embrace reading. Through reading of impactful books we can eradicate illiteracy and make our world a better place to be.

Happy International Literacy Day 2022.
